Anthony J. Baynes appointed to NFTA Board

BUFFALO – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo appointed Anthony J. Baynes as the newest commissioner to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Thursday.

Baynes is a former Chairman of the Erie County Control Board and has over 33 years of experience in the transportation and logistics industry, founding the AJ Baynes Group in 1980, a national shipping and logistics company headquartered in Buffalo, New York with offices though out the United States.

“I am honored and humbled to be appointed as a commissioner to the NFTA by Governor Cuomo. I am looking forward to working closely with Chairman Howard Zemsky and the entire Board to ensure that the NFTA is doing all it can to provide the highest quality and safest transportation services possible to the people of western New York,” Baynes said.

Baynes is a member of many professional and civic organizations, and has served the last four Governors of New York State — Governors George Pataki, Eliot Spitzer, David Paterson and Andrew Cuomo — including a current appointment as a trustee to the New York State Lawyers’ Fund.

A 1979 graduate of Buffalo State College, Baynes was named the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2009. He resides in Williamsville, NY with his wife, Eileen.
